This week we wrapped up our Fall unit. The children continued to discuss all the elements of Fall, the fact that it is also called Autumn, the colors of the leaves and the changes in the weather. They are also able to explain why the leaves change. One child explained to us that the leaves change colors because of the chlorophyll. We read different books on leaves such as Leaf Man and Why the Leaves Change Colors.
We also began our topic of Thanksgiving. The children listened as Vera told the story of Thanksgiving. Although the story of Thanksgiving is important, we spent the majority of the time talking about giving thanks as well as what we are thankful for. We went around the room and each child had a chance to tell us what they are thankful for. Celine: I am thankful for my family and when my mom buys me new clothes. Addison: I am thankful for my dad giving me money on Friday for Tzedaka and my mom giving me food for Sova. Ashley: I am thankful for my family and friends. Leah: I am thankful for my mom, dad, brother and clothes. Sydney: I am thankful for my mom, dad and whole family. Charlie: I am thankful for my mom dad brother and whole family. Sophia: I am thankful for my mom, dad, sister, and brother. Adam: I am thankful for my mom, dad and friends. Ella: I am thankful for my mom, dad, brother, sister, and home. Tyrus: I am thankful for my teachers and friends. Harper: I am thankful for my mom, dad, brothers and dog. Jordan: I am thankful for my cousins, mom, dad, Jonah and Jayden. Remi: I am thankful for my mom, dad, friends, family and teachers. Noah: I am thankful for my mom, dad, cousin, teachers, and friends. Jonah: I am thankful for my mom, dad, brother, sister, cousins and friends. We have had a fun week of projects that relate to thanksgiving. Each child had the chance to make a necklace inspired by those worn by the Native Americans. The children made patterns with different color and sized beads as well as fabric of different colors. We also made headbands. Each child chose their colors and shapes to create a pattern. We took a black piece of cardboard and cut it to fit their head, then the child created their pattern on the black paper. They then glued down their patterns and their headbands were complete. Remember that we only have school Monday and Tuesday next week and we are off Wednesday–Friday for Thanksgiving. We hope that you have a wonderful thanksgiving with your loved ones. November 30th we have Ortila and Golareh for our library day. Friday December 2nd we are celebrating Shabbat with Addison and her family. |
