On Monday, the children worked hard to decorate our room and make it festive and full of warmth in anticipation of Hanukkah. Each child helped to place decorations on the wall and clean the room to prepare for your arrival on Tuesday. The children worked so hard to learn and practice their songs, and they worked diligently on every detail, including how to walk into the room for the show. We were very proud. We hope you enjoyed our Classroom 3 Hanukkah party. The children worked very hard to make you proud. We thank you for the food and supplies to make our party so enjoyable. We hope you enjoyed the songs your children prepared for you as well as your gift. Remember: Do not open it until the first night of Hanukkah! I will email everyone some of the videos from our celebration for those who were not able to make it. Wednesday and Thursday we continued with our normal schedules of music with Maestro and time with Rabbi Josh. In music we sang some of our favorite Hannukah songs and danced around the room. Rabbi Josh always has a great story to tell our children about the holiday. This week he told the children the story of Hannukah and spoke about the dreidels. We wish all of you a happy, safe and healthy holiday and new year.

This has been a fun-filled week of preparing for our Hanukkah party. The children have been diligently practicing their songs for the Hanukkah party. They can't wait to sing to you and teach you all your part in the songs. The children finished their presents for you for Hanukkah that you will receive at the party. We have been working hard on designing and making our Hanukkiyot. Each child was given a base for their Hanukkiyah. Some chose to make the candle holders by using patterns and others used decorative tile for theirs. They decorated their base with beautiful shells. We worked very hard on our Maccabee hats that we will wear during the party.
This week also turned into a puzzle week. The children enjoyed making puzzles all around the room. Everyone was able to complete the puzzles with very little teacher assistance. They are extremely proud when they finish a puzzle. Thank you to Alison and Golareh for reading to our children during library time. They love spending time in the library looking at the different books. Reminders We look forward to seeing you at the Hanukkah party Tuesday the 13th at 11:30. Next week we look forward to our all school Shabbat with Jonah and his family. Friday the 16th will be a noon dismal. This week the children in room 3 began their unit on Hanukkah. Everyone was so excited to talk about the holiday. We began by reading the book "The Story of Hanukkah." The story tells us about how King Antiochas told the Jewish people that they can't be Jewish anymore. The Jewish people, led by Judah the Maccabee, did not listen and a war started. The Maccabees won! However, they went to the Temple and saw it was destroyed. All the oil was spilled. One little boy found a tiny pitcher of oil and that is what they used to light the Hanukiyah. Instead of lasting for only one day, as they expected it would, the oil lasted for 8 days, thus the miracle of Hanukkah. This book was a great intoduction to the holiday. Every day this week during circle time, we asked the same questions about the holiday. It made us so proud that the children really took in all of the information we shared. We asked questions to review the story: What is the Kings name? - They just love to say his name. What was the Jewish army called? Who was the leader of the Maccabees? What did the Maccabees find spilled all over the Temple? What did they use the oil for? How long did the oil last? It is such a pleasure to hear how excited your children get over being able to answer these questions. We also discussed the difference between a Menorah and a Hanukiyah. The children sat in a circle and counted the candles on each to tell us which is a Menorah and which is a Hanukiyah. We spoke about the food that we eat on hanukkah. Latkes and Sufganiyot. If you ask your children what Teacher Phoebe's favorite part of Hanukkah is, they will all tell you it is the Sufganiyot. We also began our project of choosing a Hanukiyah and copying it out of Plastilina. We had several hanukiyot to choose from. We look forward to continuing our Hanukkah unit with the class. Thank you to Golareh for coming to the library and reading to room 3. Reminders: Tot Shabbat, December 9th. Don't miss our special Friday night Tot Shabbat with Jason Mesches performing.
