“We see with our eyes.” “We hear with our ears.” “We touch with our hands.” “We smell with our nose.” “We taste with our mouth.” These are just a few words we heard from the class this week talking about our 5 senses. We connected our 5 senses to Yom Kippur by talking about what sense we can use to be a better friend. The words we heard from the kids surpassed what we ever expected. They have really taken a lot out of learning deeply about Yom Kippur. “I will use my mouth to say sorry! It is a kind thing to say to other people.” “I will use my arms to hug (touch) people and make them feel better.” “I will use my mouth to tell my friends I love them.” With Yom Kippur approaching, we have talked a lot about how we can treat others and how to be a better friend this coming year. They are really taking this in. We have seen the actions first hand. We had just finished talking about being kind to our friends and right away we saw this in action. When one of them felt sad and frustrated when she couldn’t do something she wanted to do, she started to cry. A boy standing near her comforted her by saying, “I can sing to you the Rosh Hashanah song to make you feel better.” Then proceeded to sing to her and cheer her up. It is amazing to see what we talk about as a group be put into action. We hope you all have an easy fast and meaningful day with family and friends.
