Welcome back after such a long weekend! Although this was a short week, we packed a lot into our three days together. We introduced the holiday of Tu B’Shevat, the new year of the trees. Our school environment is surrounded by so many beautiful trees, flowers and plants, and the children had much to say about how important they are to us and our world. We read a few books about trees and will continue to explore them as we move forward.
The children did a “still life” drawing exercise by examining the details of two different flowers and then drawing them. Some of the details they described were: It’s great and yellow.” “It’s in a pot.” “It has dirt.” The dirt is called soil.” “The red one has pointy things on it.” “They are real.” “I see a leaf.” “the flower is at the top.” “I drew two red plants.” It was wonderful to see their creations. The time they took to do this showed their patience and care for it. We will continue to talk about how important trees and nature are to us on a daily basis as well as lifelong. We were lucky this week to have Rabbi Sari and Cantor Emma come join us. Rabbi Josh is home with his new baby girl. We sang songs and heard a cute story that was interactive. We are lucky to have so many people here at our school that can come join us and help us learn.
