This last week we celebrated Shavuot.
The holiday of Shavuot is a two-day holiday, The word Shavuot means “weeks.” It marks the completion of the seven-week counting period between Passover and Shavuot. The Torah was given by G‑d to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai on Shavuot more than 3,300 years ago. Every year on the holiday of Shavuot we renew our acceptance of G‑d’s gift, and G‑d “re-gives” the Torah. In ancient times, two wheat loaves would be offered in Holy Temple on Shavuot. It was also at this time that people would begin to bring bikkurim, their first and choicest fruits, to thank G‑d for Israel’s bounty. It is customary to eat dairy foods on Shavuot. Menus range from traditional cheese blintzes, yogurt, butter to quiches. We talked about what rules we have in our classroom like being safe by keeping our feet on the floor, no hitting, getting in a line, how to be a good friend, share and take turns and raise your hand at snack time. Then we read stories about the holiday and even made homemade butter. On Friday for Shabbat we will continue our celebration. We had music time with Teacher Andrew. We sang songs, marched around, played with instruments and did dances with scarfs. No School on: Monday 29th-Holiday Tuesday 30th- staff development day Wednesday 31st-Shavuot Shabbat Shalom and May there be peace in your home today and every day. Teacher Nikki and Teacher Liora This week, your amazing children played with different toys, different art projects, sang songs, danced around and came up with different ideas.
We worked on colors this week by putting out toys of 6 different colors with crayons, colored paper, colored water, to spray onto paper, colored puzzles, and the best part was with different colored fruit for snack time. The kids also made their own yogurt dessert with crushed graham crackers and red strawberries and blueberries. We did felt stories about The Mouse in the Colored House and The Very Hungry Caterpillar who eats all that yummy colored fruit. Then finally we played with rainbow toys and talked about each color in the rainbow. Our friends gave each other a helping hand while playing in the tree. We found our own shadows on the ground, made silly animals with our hands and held up flashlights with monkeys and dino's too see their shadow on a dark lit door. Then of course we did dramatic play with dress up, playing with stuffed dogs, plastic babies and playing in the kitchen. We also washed the babies by giving them a bath along with their bottle. We created buildings out of Magna Tiles. Then finally, we continued to play even more with finger painting, Kenetic sand, play dough, Shabbat felt stories and drawing. Last Friday on Shabbat we were so blessed to not only have Ditza, Cantor Emma, and Rabbi Josh but also Cantor Lam joined us. This Friday, we will end our amazing and busy week by celebrating Shabbat in temple with all our friends at school. Shabbat Shalom Teacher Nikki and Teacher Liora Each week, your amazing children play with different toys, do different art projects, sing different songs and learn throughout it all.
Keep in mind that each child learns and flourishes in a unique way. We use different methods of learning to help your child feel comfortable, safe, and enthusiastic about learning. We worked on colors this week by putting out toys of 4 different colors and watching the children find the correct match. We used animals and toys in yellow, green, red and blue. Then we painted with different textures. It was so fun for the kids to watch how each shape and stroke created texture, color, lines, space and balance. Then of course we did dramatic play with dress up and playing in the kitchen. We also washed the babies by giving them a bath along with their bottle. We played with colored foam paint and got our hands wet and cold. We created buildings out of Magna Tiles. Then finally, we did finger painting, played with Kenetic sand, play dough and dot art. On Friday we will celebrate Mother's and Grandmother's by having a lunch and going to temple for Shabbat. Happy Mother's Day to you all. Thank you for being such amazing women! Teacher Nikki and Teacher Liora May has arrived! Spring is here and it has been beautiful outside. The children have been playing outside in the sandbox, playing with bubbles, riding bikes and playing ball. We did fun art projects about the colors in the rainbow. Using crayons and colored paper, along with mixing colors in water to show how to get different colors. We celebrated Israel's 69th Birthday in so many ways. Finger painting, making flags, doing games with our flags, singing songs, telling stories of traveling to Israel on a plane and singing Happy Birthday. We even got together with the other classes and rocked out with Andrew, Jen and Tami. We had so much fun during music time with Andrew. He brought great instruments for the children to play with. We danced, laughed and sang. This Friday we will walk on the rope (and sing We Are Walking on the Rope), over to the temple to celebrate Shabbat. We will continue to sing songs, tell wonderful stories, and stand under the tallit to be blessed. Shabbat Shalom Have a happy and safe weekend Teacher Nikki and Teacher Liora |
