Dear Mommies and Daddies,
Room 12 had a learning-filled week. Our friends are working hard to learn how to identify their names. Each days the children come in and have to find their name and put it on their picture on the Feelings Board. In addition, they spell their name to Teacher Mari and work on knowing each letter. Sometimes we mix up the letters so that we know that the children are learning the actual letters and not just the pattern of their name. We are also emphasizing the first 5 letters of the alphabet, A, B, C, D, E, and F. Every day during our morning circle, we discuss these letters including the sound and animal associated with the letter from Zoophonics. The kids enjoy the letter game we play during circle time. We lay out the letter cards on the carpet and ask the children to close their eyes. When they open them, we have removed one of the letters and they have to guess which one is missing. Through this activity, the children are becoming proficient in letter recognition and being exposed to letter sounds. When you are out and about with your children, ask them to identify one of these letters! Along with letter recognition, Room 12 focused on shapes and counting this week. Through various activities, we are learning to identify shapes, to count and to strengthen fine motor skills. Carter, Michael, Owen, and Mason particularly enjoyed the game of grabbing the marbles as fast as they could with different tongs. After all the marbles were put into the buckets, they had to count them to see who picked up the most and who picked up the least. Noah, Skyler and Paisley enjoyed practicing their fine motor grips by coloring shapes with small broken crayons. This activity prepares the children to have the correct pincer grasp when holding a pencil. Room 12 started our discussion on Thanksgiving this week. We introduced the word “Thanksgiving” by breaking it up into “thanks” and “giving”. We asked the children what they are thankful for and what they would give to people who don’t have what they have. Neda said she was thankful for her family, and Ella said she was thankful for eating. Ayla said she would give toys to the kids who didn’t have toys, and Skyler said she would give shoes to people who don’t have shoes. We are excited for more Thanksgiving discussions and art projects, but we are especially excited for our feast next week! Room 12 had a great Shabbat with the Hayavi’s. Thank you for coming in and sharing our Shabbat with Room 12. We hope everyone has a great weekend, and we look forward to all of the activities in store next week!
