The fires are out and the air is clear. We are thankful and grateful to all the fireman, policeman and staff for keeping us and our school safe from harm.
We welcomed Leo Baeck Temple Early Childhood Center to our campus. Their school too was safe and not harmed by the fire, however the smell of smoke has lingered there and therefore we as a community offered some of our space so they too can have school and also enjoy our campus. We started the week off and running celebrating Chanukah with a very special party. Thank you to all the parents all the delicious yummy food and sweets. Watching and hearing the children singing, smiling and full of giggles at the party illuminated our hearts and lite up the back yard with light and love. Working on our Chanukah projects become the focus for the first few days of the school this week. The children were very excited to see them completed and ready to be sent home for lighting on Wednesday night. We explained to each of the children how to turn on the lights in their Chanukkiah. Having the ability to light their own fosters the children's independence and self-confidence. The room all week had the smells of the holiday. We had lots of fun filling our donut holes on Wednesday with Chocolate cream, Vanilla cream and Jelly. On Thursday we made latkes with Sebastian and Dior's mom. Cutting, grinding and spiraling the potatoes, both white and yams, grinding the onions, mixing in the eggs and spicing the mixture with salt and pepper and frying latkes them made the snack extra special. The children in room 12 love, love latkes. They eat them up. Thank you Sunny for helping us and reading Chanukah books to the children. They enjoyed having you in class. We will have a lot more opportunities for all the parents to help us throughout the rest of the year now that the children have adjusted and separation is much easier. If you have any special projects that you are interested to do with the children, please don't hesitate to tell us. We love new ideas. As part of our regular Friday routine we of course baked challah. This week we made blue and white challah in honor of Chanukah. The children all look forward to challah making, it kicks off our Shabbat celebration and makes every Friday a special day of the week for us. Friday was an all schools Chanukah and Shabbat celebration. It is hectic, however having all the children from Early Childhood and this week we welcomed the children and teachers from Leo Baeck Early Childhood Center to our Shabbat Services. We wish all of you a very Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Have a safe and relaxing winter break. We will see everyone on January 2, 2018.
