We celebrated Israel’s 67th (Sheeshem veh Shevah) birthday this week. Our class, with all of our Explorer friends, sung, ate, and danced with Brak. We baked a cake in honor of Israel’s birthday with blue and white. The children cut their very own Israeli salad and ate falafel and Humus with Pita. The children enjoyed every bite! We examined the details of the flag and talked about Israel’s age. We counted up to 67 with different objects so that the children can have a physical grasp of the objects and see the quantity. The children decided that they will go to Israel for the birthday celebration next year…so get ready!
We celebrated Earth Day and the children made fresh juice, used a compost machine, planted fruit and vegetable seeds, and had some Yoga time. We read the story “Are you my Mother” and had a discussion about the book at circle time. Welcome back to all of you. We hope you enjoyed your time with your sweet children. The children were so happy to see their friends. They have grown over the last two weeks and are interacting with one another in larger group play.
This week we spoke about how old Israel will be and the details of the Israel flag. We are learning songs in honor of Israel’s birthday. We spoke about the triangle (meshulash)shape that creates the Magen David on the flag and painted blue Magen David made from popsicle sticks. We also created individual flags of Israel. We discussed Israel’s location in the world and the different cities in Israel. Next week we will be celebrating Israel’s Birthday on Thursday April 23, 2015. Pleases send your children in Blue & White clothing on BOTH Thursday and Friday of next week.
