Shabbat Shalom, Ulpanon Bet Families,
We started the week with a beautiful Pre-K celebration Seder for Tu B’Shevat, led by Rabbi Sari. We joined her in saying the blessings over the 4 cups of grape juice that represent the 4 seasons. The first cup is white grape juice that reminds us of winter. The second cup of juice is mixed with dark grape juice, and we watched the color change to remind us of spring; the darker juice in the third cup represents summer, and the fourth cup is all purple to remind us of the fall season. During the Seder, we ate fresh and dried fruits and corresponding blessings. We ate 4 types of fruits:
In class we painted pots and the children selected seeds to plant from tomato, parsley, roses, zinnia and delphinium flowers. The children enjoyed planting in class, and each child will get to take care of their plant. We will watch for the changes over time. The children enjoyed working with model magic clay to create miniature trees on round bases of wood. They rolled and shaped their trees and later had fun painting them. In honor of Tu B’Shvat, we read few interesting books about trees and nature:
We played a game to learn the tree parts: shorashim- roots, Geza- trunk, anafim-brunches, alim- leafs. the game is similar to simon says, the children had to say the name of the part and use their body to show the tree part. Thank you to Melissa and Adam, Lacey’s parents for reading to us during our library time. We read The Giving Tree and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too. We talked about the two birthdays that were recently celebrated: For Martin Luther King Jr. and for the trees. We challenged the children and asked if we can find something in common in these 2 birthdays. Here are what the children shared: Both birthdays are in Yanuar -January, trees have different colors like skin colors, and both birthdays are important to the world. Rabbi Josh visited us for S’torah time. He talked about Moshe (Moses) leading the Israelites out of Egypt, and how important his job was. Rabbi Josh shared that Yitro, Moshe’s father-in-law assisted him with good advice, and the fact that Moshe listened and accepted Yitro’s help worked very well for him. During Music with Ditza, we sang and danced to the beautiful song Ani veh Atah (You and I), a song about changing the world together. The link to song in Hebrew: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP6PS-poyMg Translated Lyrics for Ani veh Atah: You and I will change the world You and I by then all will follow Others have said it before me But it doesn't matter You and I we'll change the world You and I will try from the beginning It will be tough for us, no matter, it's not too bad Others have said it before me But it doesn't matter You and I we'll change the world You and I will change the world You and I by then all will follow Others have said it before me But it doesn't matter You and I we'll change the world We danced with tambourines and sang to Hebrew songs, including: Abracadabra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FDE5MoiQww and En Den Dino: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg6LMr8RVkQ Important Dates:
