September 29, 2017 Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families, The children started the week by sharing how they celebrated Rosh Hashanah. Some children shared how they celebrated at their homes, eating apples dipped in honey. Another shared that she went to Beit Knesset - synagogue - where a girl was singing, and another child went camping with his grandfather. During calendar time, we welcomed the Hebrew month of Tishrei and sang our Hebrew months song. We introduced a new Holiday, Yom Kippur, and shared that during this holiday we say sorry - Slicha - for choices we make that are unkind. We asked the children why they would say sorry; they responded: “for fighting with my brother”, for not playing with another friend”, and for not listening to Eema and Abba. During Tashlich in Ullpanon Bet (over a kiddie pool) we learned one of the traditions of Yom Kippur; the tradition where we throw away our bad choices and promise to do better. The children were inspired to draw on a rice paper something they were sorry for, and then threw the papers in the water, watching the paper with the drawing dissolve. Specialists: We had PE with coach Danny and worked on our large muscles through ball skills, played throw and catch with a partner, tossed bean bags into hula hoops, and played with the hula hoops. We enjoyed Music with Ditza, singing holiday songs and playing instruments. Rabbi Josh visited us this week and told us the story of “Jonah and the Whale”, a story about forgiveness and treating other with Kavod – respect. We were very inspired to start Yom Kippur with making good choices! We also worked on a Yom Kippur Journal page. We celebrated Lea’s 4th Birthday on Friday. Yom Huledet Sameach Lea! The children drew pictures and we created an album for her. Reminders:
