On Monday, when the school was closed, the teachers all participated in an Early Leadership Conference sponsored by the Bureau of Jewish Education, which was hosted by Adat Ari El Synagogue. Our teachers, as well as many other early childhood educators working in Jewish preschools in the greater Los Angeles area, had the opportunity to learn and pick from a series of lectures to learn and grow from. We had an amazing keynote speaker, Jonathan Mooney speak to us, and it was incredibly motivating to hear how he overcame many challenges in his life which helped him become who he is today.
Our week began as many weeks do, with a building wide Havdalah led by Sigalit. Our children have become so familiar with the service, knowing mostly the order of the blessings that we recite as we lift the various symbols.
We went to the Yoga studio where we engaged in various yoga poses along with Teachers Marcela’s and Julia’s friends. The children had a great time as they tried different animal poses and breathing techniques. We used a parachute to help us breathe in as we lifted the parachute and breathe out as we lowered the parachute back down. We also got up to dance and get our wiggles out which is very necessary! We ended with “Shavasana” where we all lie quietly on our backs in a resting pose. We love yoga!
We continued to tell the story of Purim, talking about the city of Shushan, where the story took place, and King Achashverosh and how he picked a new Queen, Queen Esther, with the help of Uncle Mordechai and about evil Haman (boo!) The children used green and orange paints on large rollers to cover white paper which we turned into our own Shushan castle.
We visited the Beit Issie Farmers Market where we were able to buy cups of fruit and enjoy them outside on the Katz Pavilion. Thank you all for bringing the fruit for us to enjoy!
Our week ended as always, with Shabbat and a few of our favorite things, challah and music.
