Art, play dough, music, story time, bubbles, pretend play, indoor and outdoor play - it's been a great week in Room 11. All of our friends in Room 11 love playing in the sandbox. They like making sand cakes, birthday cakes, digging, mixing, pouring water, hiding toys and finding them, and sometimes even throwing sand. As your children play in the sand, they are learning important skills. Sand play encourages socialization, communication, sharing ideas, sharing space, and when playing in a group, it encourages taking turns. They are learning concepts like full/empty, wet/dry, and heavy/light. They are learning about texture - rough/smooth and using their fine motor skills as they pour and dig in the sand. They are also learning that throwing sand is not okay - friends don't like it and it doesn't feel good. It's interesting when we take a step back and think just how much our children are actually learning as they play in the sandbox! On Thursday, we celebrated the holiday of Lag B'Omer. On Lag B'Omer it is customary to do fun outdoor activities -in honor of Lag B'Omer, we had a picnic with our friends from next door. It was a blast! We all sat outside on a picnic blanket, and ate wonderful snacks together. The children especially loved eating the Israeli snack - Bisli! They had a great time having snack together outside. We ended our week making challah together and then with a beautiful Room 11 Shabbat celebration- followed by going to Temple for Shabbat services! It was a wonderful ending to a great week! Reminders: Monday, May 28th - No school - In honor of Memorial Day Saturday, June 1st - Tot Shabbat - Wise Woods - 10:00-11:30 Shabbat Shalom! Have a great weekend! Warmly, Genene, Melinda and Judy
