Dear Parents,
Your children have been hard at work this week, learning all about Purim. We have the entire story on our felt board, and in the mornings, your children are eager to check it out while they learn about each character. The children have also wanted to dress up as princesses, kings and knights. Along with Purim comes the use of groggers, which we are happy to report, were a huge hit in this classroom. The children have been sharing and taking turns using the groggers, listening for the name, Haman, to shake and shake some more. Some children showed interest in making a crown, so with the dot markers, they worked all together to design some crowns for our classroom. What an incredible moment to watch how they designed these pieces to be shared by the classroom community. We have also begun learning about composting and planting. We started to collect various food items when the children finished eating (cantaloupe rinds, lettuce, pickles, bananas and banana peels,etc.). The children got to see what compost looks and feels like after the worms get to eat it. Teacher Melissa has worms at home, so we are fortunate to be able to see this process more in depth. While planting, your children got to look at various seeds up close, guess what will happen to them once they are planted and share their thoughts during this process. We went onto the yard outside of Room 22 and everyone was hard at work! They dug in the soil, watered the plants, filled up old planters with soil, planted seeds and the compost “worm poop.” We will be continuing this lesson throughout the upcoming weeks and this will be a great opportunity to have conversations with your children about what they have been doing at school. Thank you to everyone’s family member or close family friends that were able to share a wonderful Shabbat and Generations Day together. It was a beautiful day and we are so thankful they were able to be with your children. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and Shabbat Shalom!
