Shabbat Shalom!
As our school week comes to an end we have the wonderful opportunity to celebrate Shabbat together in Room 25. What an amazing weekly experience we get to participate in as a class and also as a community when we go Temple with the other First Steps and Discoverers classes. In our classroom, we set the table for Shabbat. We cover the tables with a table cloth and the table is set with Shabbat candles, a Kiddush cup and a challah. We also have Shabbat puzzles, books and our tzedakah box on the table. We pretend play until snack and then we do the real thing…. First we do Shabbat flannel board stories. We then turn off the lights to make the room feel cozy. We sing different Shabbat songs each week. (Bim Bam and I've got that Shabbat feeling are definite favorites) We then “take the light, the love and the warmth into our hearts”, cover our eyes, and sing the blessing over the Shabbat candles. We hold up our Kiddush cups and say the blessing over the grape juice. We then sing Ha Motzi and eat our delicious challah and snack. It’s something our friends really look forward to and enjoy each week. After we celebrate in the classroom, we take a walk on the rope to Temple. We are joined by Ditza and her guitar and Rabbi Josh. As a community, we sing Shabbat songs, hear a story, say the Sh'ma and then all of the children are blessed under the tallit. It really is a very special time! We are excited to have all our families experience Shabbat with us.
