Children and gardening are a natural combination. They love it! There is something about the feel and smell of soil that attracts children to it. They used small motor skills to hold shovels and cups and estimated how much soil it would take to fill a pot, (learning how to estimate quantities is a pre-math skill) They used their emerging communication skills with one another and alternated using the available tools creating cooperation. We all look forward to Mondays because that’s when our music teacher, Brock, comes to our class. We joined room 24 this week and used shakers along with Brock’s guitar. He is very sweet with the children and sings songs in both Hebrew and English. Wednesday has become “cooking day”. This week we prepared blueberry muffins with the children. They saw how after much mixing and pouring and measuring, the loose mixture was placed in the oven and became a plump and toasty blueberry muffin- this interactive experience is the foundation for learning about cause and effect!
