Fall is here...We continue to focus on fall colors in the classroom. This week we worked on an ART IN PROGRESS PROJECT. We started out by painting with two colors, orange and yellow. We then added green and the next day added brown. By progressively adding colors, our friends are learning about volume, texture, shapes and mixing colors. Just as we teach children about colors and shapes, we also feel it is important for them to learn how to express and control their feelings and bodies when they are frustrated. Children at two years old are easily overwhelmed by impulses bigger than they are. Marcela and I are talking to the children about keeping their hands on their own bodies and being kind to their friends. Experimenting with physical limits is definitely age appropriate and developing impulse control is often a lifelong process. It takes time and practice to develop these skills and it is something we will continue to work on all year! In our classroom, we have the book Hands Are Not For Hitting, by Martine Agassi. We talk about "gentle hands and encourage friends to use their words to express their feelings and needs. Last but not least, pajama day was a huge success - everyone looked adorable in their comfy P.J's. We wish you all Shabbat Shalom! And we thank you for all your support! Marcela and Judy
