Dear Parents,
We've been working all week learning the Passover story and the songs for our model Seder. Passover is a holiday full of ritual symbols that guide the Jews in retelling the Exodus story, and the Seder plate that holds these items is the centerpiece of the Seder meal. Passover is the perfect holiday to explore with children as they are busy pursuing and absorbing new experiences. They have developed longer attention spans and greater language skills. They are curious and eager to take on increasingly complex challenges. The children have been very social and love practicing the roles and routines. The Seder, with its storytelling, number significance, role playing and repetition, is a great way for the children to learn. The Passover Seder is about question asking, this ties in great to our Wise Learning Process curriculum, "Language of Disciplines" and "Unanswered Questions." Everything we do during the Seder is to encourage curiosity with the children. In fact, certain things are done that have no answer at all and the only intent is to heighten the children's intuitiveness. "Why do we dip vegetables in salt water?" This sparked much conversation with the children about how salt water tasted, and they made comparisons with it to ocean water and their tears. There is so much conversation to be had, we look forward to the following weeks ahead. The children enjoyed seeing Rabbi Josh and going to the Temple on Shabbat, singing Passover songs and listening to the story. Thank you to the Yroshalmiane family for joining us and making the day more memorable. Please join us in the classroom on Tuesday, March 20th at 11am, to participate with your children in our class Seder.
