Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families,
The children were very excited to return to school after our spring vacation and they shared all of the fun things they did. We started to learn about a very exciting holiday; Yom Ha’Atzmaut- Israel Independence Day. We take pride in teaching this important unit. In class we explain that Israel is the homeland for all the Jewish people. The children, during our discussion, had the reasoning skills to conclude that Israel belongs to them as well. Ask your child how old Israel is now; they are able to say that Israel is 67years old. Portions of this unit gave us the opportunity to learn about geometry. We made the Israeli star and the children practiced drawing two triangles upside down. We also learned that the Israeli flag came from the idea of the Talit- the shawl we pray with. We learned about Jerusalem and the Western Wall and that it is a special wall that used to be part of the Holy Temple it is where we can pray to G-D. Shiley brought two baby chicks to the classroom to share with the class. Each child had the opportunity to hold the chick in their hand. Next week we will continue learning about the state of Israel and its traditional clothing. We will have two celebrations for the children on both Wednesday, April 22 (a class party where we will sing songs and enjoy a special Israeli lunch) and on Thursday, April 23, the entire PreK will celebrate on the yard where the children will create an Israeli shuk and snack on pita and humus. Thank you to Karen, Olivia’s mom for coming on Tuesday to read books to the children in the library.
