The week started out with Tennis at PE. The children are working hard learning how to hold the racquet in one hand and the ball in the other. The children were laughing and trying very hard to hit the ball over the net (it was set up as a volley ball net, so it was high).
The day continued with our Passover children making bricks on the Pre-K yard. Rooms 2, 7 and 9 mixed dirt, sand, water and straw together. All the children had turns lugging the ingredients to the mixing area while some used their feet and hands to mix up all the ingredients and placed it in rectangular tubs to dry in the sun. Our chrysalis turned black Monday evening and we were a little worried that it was a sad ending to the caterpillar. Teacher Ren saw a little orange shining through the chrysalis. It gave us hope that the caterpillar was ready to emerge as a beautiful butterfly. We all wished for the best. After Yoga and as we started our lunch, Malikai announced that the butterfly was out, and we all ran over to see the Monarch Butterfly. In a few days we will let the butterfly free to spread its wings and help our world be a beautiful place to live. The children have been hard at work preparing for the room 2 Seder, we hope to see everyone on Tuesday. It will be special and sure to bring a smile to your faces. We practiced our songs in music this week and the 1st of the 4 questions. We have also begun to learn new songs for Pre-K celebration. Our class doesn’t like performing very much, but with teacher encouragement the children are becoming more confident in their abilities. We have also been hard at work on our Afikoman bags. Each of the children sewed their bags with little assistance from the teachers. They stamped in Hebrew, English or both, traced the letters and decorated the bags. You are sure to use them for years to come. Thursday, we had a special video project. The children were videoed for the Pre-K Celebration. They were full of confidence and smiles. Amazing to see how much each of them has grown this year in so many wonderful ways. Shabbat is hear and we are baking challah as part of our routine. This week we have spent time discussing what we put in our challah and challah has 7 different ingredients, much different from matzah that only has 2 ingredients. We spoke about how the challah rises and is soft and tasty and matzah is hard and flat. Next week we will make matzah, it is surly going to be as delicious as our weekly challah. This week Aitana and Anderson shared Shabbat celebration and we had sweet treats, challah (Anderson brings chocolate chip challah) and yummy fruit. During quiet afternoon time we were treated to a preview of the Spring Musical, Peter Pan. Tickets are still available. Spring Break is coming quickly and there is a lot of excitement filling the air with travel plans, Seder plans and family gatherings. We all need a little time to relax and celebrate.
