Shalom Ulpanon Bet families, This week we continued to explore Rosh Hashanah through different experiences. The children got to peel a Rimon (pomegranate) and to see the many seeds. We also learned a Rimon song - ask your child to sing it to you. During dramatic play, our Big Rimon class lost its seeds and the Ulpanon friends had to find them. We explained to the children that the significance of the symbol of the Rimon is that however many seeds there are will be equal to the amount of good things we would like to happen to us in the coming year. In art, the children got to make two kinds of Rimonim. The children also enjoyed making a Rosh Hashanah greeting card. We also talked about the tradition of sending cards during this holiday. In honor of Rosh Hashanah we had a fun visit. Marla, Rabbi Spike and Melanie got to sing Rosh Hashanah songs and blow the shofar. This was a special treat! In class this week, we also started to work with the children in two new learning centers with 2 groups each working with one teacher for about 15 minutes. One of the beautiful things about our small class is that we have the ability to divide the group in half and set up regular rotations to enhance their learning. During these small groups we work on different skills that promote academics and an increase in focus. The activities we did included numbers, counting, sewing and a memory game. This week we started our music program at the music lab with Maestro David Kates in the Wise School Music Innovation Lab. Another special and fun event, we had the opportunity to participate in this week was an informative visit with a bee keeper, who came to explain about the bees and how they live and work to create honey. Please ask your child to share something they learned about bees with you. We all experience Judaism in a different ways. One special Mitzvah unites Jewish around the world by giving Tzedakah. We would like to teach the children about Tzedakah and also start a tradition of giving Tzedakah every Friday during Kaballat Shabbat. Please send a few coins in a Ziploc bag every Friday. Yom Huledet Sameach Avi! On Friday we celebrated Avi’s birthday Shabbat Shalom, Talia and Meirav RemindersIf you haven’t sent us a family picture, please do so ASAP.
