Having time off in the middle of a week can be both a blessing and a curse. Coming back to school was filled with lots of giggles and ants in our pants. We hope all of you had meaningful Yom Kippur.
This past Shabbat, Dobi Bear went home with Teacher Fern and the children listened to the journal entrance about Dobi’s adventnures over the weekend. They saw pictures of Dobi lighting the candles, doing the kiddish over the wine and holding the challah. They also heard about the special Mitzvah of visiting the sick that Dobi did with Teacher Fern over the weekend. Each of them are excited for their turn with Dobi and your families. We have been doing a lot of work with the children’s fine motor skills this week. The children have been learning and practicing tracing using templates with shapes and letters and even their hands. In just a few short weeks we have seen more interest in Art Center as the children are becoming more comfortable in the classroom and the varying activities we put out for them. This week we have also introduced tracks and tubes with magnets to use on our standing white board. There has been a lot of small group cooperation trying various ways to line up the tracks and tubes for the gears and balls to run through and down. We had our first PE on Monday. Coach Danny had the children throwing, bouncing and catching balls. He explained to the children that this was for their “eye hand coordination”. The teachers participated with all the children, helping them dribble the ball, throw it up in the air to a friend and catch it themselves. Everyone walked away at the end with a big smile. We put Gak out had a great time watching it stretch and finding hidden treasures inside. The children also experimented with different objects to see if it would cause the Gak to make a bubble. They found out the if you put the Gak over an open container with closed sides, (not mesh), the Gak with melt and air with fill up in the container causing it to bubble. One of the children added that if you put a straw in the Gak, like you do in a drink, and blow into it maybe it will make a bubble. We didn’t have a straw in the room. We will try it at another time to see if it works. Outside we had a construction project. We started to put up the frame of our Sukkah. It was fun watching the children search for the correct size PVC pipes. They also learnt a little bit about connecting the pipes and the different shape joints we needed for everything to fit together and make squares. On Tuesday we will put up the sides and decorate. Come into the side patio and look at the Sukkah. We are going to do snack and if there is room, maybe lunch one of the days. Shabbat comes around and quickly and the room is always filled with the smell of challah dough just waiting to be braided and baked. We are looking forward to post holidays to celebrate and host all the families in room 2. Starting on Oct 9th we will be introducing a Tuesday Share Day. Each week 3 children can bring in a special item to share during circle time. They can both show what they bring and talk about it too. We will be setting up a schedule after Simchat Torah. Please make sure your children wear appropriate school Shoes and Clothing. Skirts and Dresses need shorts under them. It will keep your child clean and safe. Sneakers are preferred, we do a lot of running and jumping on the yard. Velcro or Zip Sneakers work the best. The children can put them on and off themselves and it fosters a sense of independence and self reliance.
