This was a busy week in Ulpanon Bet. We discussed Dr. Martin Luther King and the upcoming holiday, Tu B’shvat. We had conversations about trees and how important they are to us. We noticed trees do and give us so many things such as: shade, fruit, furniture, paper, decorations, oxygen and flowers. Also, we learned some Hebrew songs for Tu B’shvat- ask your children to teach them to your whole family! In the art center, we painted pots and next week, we will plant seeds inside them. Rabbi Josh visited our classroom to continue our discussion on Tu B’shvat. We really enjoyed his visit and look forward to his next, which will happen every other Thursday. Additionally, we continued to learn about Dr. Martin Luther King and how important it is to include everybody. The science teacher from the elementary school, Mandy, visited us and explained how a rainbow is created. The children looked through prisms at light and were fascinated by what they saw. Mandy explained that light bends to create what we call a rainbow. We then measured, mixed, poured and layered colored batter creating a rainbow cake. We hope your families enjoyed the piece the children took home! This week was Brooks' library day and his mom came with us to the library to read us a book. We reall enjoyed spending time together, thank you for being with us! We celebrated Aiden’s special Shabbat this week and his family came to join us. We also had a fire and earthquake drill this week. The children went through the drills smoothly and we will continue to practice these and other drills throughout our year. Reminders: Monday 1/18/16- School Closed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Tuesday 1/19/16- School Closed for Staff Professional Development Day. Friday 1/22/16- Gabriel’s Shabbat. Shabbat Shalom and have a nice weekend. Warmly, Talia and Meirav
