The week started with the smallest class we’ve had yet, but one of the best celebrations too. We had a wonderful Tu BiShvat Seder lead by Rabi Sari under the olive trees in our beautiful Shalom Garden. We learned about why we celebrate the trees and hope for a fruitful harvest when the winter ends. We went to the temple with the whole EC and sang songs together. It’s always nice to see our entire school come together. We then helped plant a tree in the garden behind the temple. We planted a Myrtle tree, which everyone remembered from our time in the sukkah. On Wednesday we had music where we continued our lesson with bells and drums. We also baked sugar cookies in the shape of the first letter in our name and they were a delicious treat for closing circle. We had a wonderful visit with Taylor's mom in the library and she read one of our favorite books to us, "Today I Fell Silly." Thank you so much to Nina for joining us. Thursday Rabbi Josh came to tell us the story about the long journey Moses traveled and reminded us to show kindness to people in need. After the Rabbi we started our challah baking. We added the yeast and water and watched the yeast activate and its sweet smell. We added the eggs, honey, oil and salt and watched them mix together. Last was the flour and what a mess all that flour made. We watched the dough come together, took it out of the bowl and let it rise in the sun outside. The children all knew something wasn’t right when the dough wasn’t getting any bigger. Teacher Ren made a mistake and the water we used was too hot, making the yeast inactive. On Friday when we saw the dough wasn’t rising we decided to make it anyway, forming it into shapes. We wanted to make this challah sweeter so we covered it in cinnamon sugar and kept our fingers crossed it would turn out okay. We made friendship bracelets to share before going to the temple for Shabbat services. Shabbat shalom from room 2 Reminders Fathers/grandfathers week February 4-8th No school February 18th and 19th
