Dear Parents,
This week the children arrived at school to see the classroom decorated with colorful masks and beads. Purim is almost here, it’s such a fun time for the children. During circle time, the children were so excited to talk about Purim, they sat with great patience to hear the story of King Ahashverosh, Queen Esther, Queen Vashti, Mordecai, and Haman in the land of Shushan. In hearing the story of Purim as a fairy tale, the children know what to expect. From, "Once upon a time," to "Happily ever after," they willingly listened until the story resolved itself. Build, create, play!!! The children spent time this week creating their own castle from cardboard. From cutting the pieces and painting the cardboard, once the castle was complete, then the storytelling and pretend play began. Next, the children had the opportunity to make a puppet theater. We painted cardboard, cut a hole, and duck-taped a red velvet curtain. The next day, the children engaged with hand puppets, and recreated the Purim story on their own, using their hand made puppet theater. Hand puppet play helps children develop creative skills by forcing them to use their imagination. They make up the roles, the rules, the situations and the solutions. Next week the children will be making their own puppets and creating their own stories. Shabbat was filled with song and dance, much enjoyed by all. Thank you to the Ghodsian family for joining us and making the day more memorable.
