Dear Parents,
What a busy and memorable week it has been! Father's and Grandfather's week began early Monday morning, where several dads joined us for P.E with Coach Danny. The game of the day was "Touch Dodgeball." This is a great multi-direction game that requires extreme focus and good listening skills. The children and dads worked as a team, ran after and threw balls, and had great team spirit! What a fun morning for all. Throughout the week our classroom was open to different activities for the Father's and Grandfather's. Many joined us as they participated building with Legos, working on puzzles, doing an art project, joining us for snack, or interacting on the yard with their children. This was very special for the children and very good quality time spent together. We thank you all for making this week extra special and having the opportunity to spend time with your child. We have continued this week with gardening and the children engaged in another Science experiment. In class, we read the book, "Planting a Rainbow," by Lois Ehlert. This book helps children understand how to plant seeds and nurture their growth. There are also beautiful illustrations presenting all the flowers of each color of the rainbow. What a great opportunity to make our own rainbow flowers, and that's what the children did. We set up a simple and visually stunning experiment with the children to explore the transfer of water through a plant. The children were given white daisies, jars filled with water, and various shades of food color. They chose colors they wanted and even began mixing colors to get a color we didn’t have. We talked about how the plant transports water up the stem, to reach the leaves and petals and hydrate them. Now with brightly colored water, the children put their white daisies in the jar and began to wait. Within two hours or so some of the outer petals started to change color, especially the blue and green dyes, which seemed to be the strongest. This was very exciting! Some children even thought that they could see the water traveling up into the flowers and out to the petals, they concluded this from direct observation. The Father's and Grandfather's Brunch was enjoyed by so many. It was so nice to see everyone's happy faces celebrating Shabbat together. Also, a friendly reminder that we don't celebrate Valentine's Day at school. Please support us by telling your children that our holiday with treats is Purim. Thanks for your understanding.
