A week filled with energy. The children returned on Monday excited and ready to start the week. After stretching our bodies before PE, we started playing, “Full Touch Kick Ball.” We are practicing for next weeks “Father and Grandfather’s Week,” hoping that we will have a lot of visitors joining us.
We came in from the yard and read “Green Eggs and Ham,” by Dr. Seuss. We had so much fun with the rhymes and laughed out loud at the silly faces of the illustrations. We talked about rhymes afterwards and used our names to create our own rhymes. We also spoke about other books that Dr. Seuss authored. The class has decided to write their own book about the places we have gone. Nicely fitting in with our, “Big Idea” for the year, Where in The World. We also spoke about where we live. Each child had a unique answer: Anderson: Los Angeles Blake: Sepulveda Anja: A house Leo: Brentwood Max: By a road Noah: An apartment Dior: A street Taylor: Beverly Hills Chloe: San Ysidro Street Sebastian: A street After spring break, we will begin our formal work on mapping out our community, where we have been, writing and illustrating our story. Of course, each child will help by participating through their individual choices. We want them to enjoy the process. Tuesday, we made Green Eggs and Jam. Some of the children took the plunge and tried the green eggs. On Monday, we discussed why we don’t eat ham and that we will have jam instead. Thank goodness that ham rhymes with jam and tastes good on toast. The consensus was that the scrambled green eggs taste like regular green eggs. Music was on the schedule for Wednesday. We are practicing playing the bells and singing along. Wednesday music is another day that would be fun for the fathers and grandfathers to join us. This week the children have been working hard on mazes, practicing their directional skills and problem solving. There was also an open art center with glue, paint and stamps. The children created their masterpieces combining various objects with which to create. We have also been practicing non-verbal communication skills during quiet exploration time in the afternoon, the children must use hand and body movement to communicate with their friends. It has given them the opportunity to also practice facial expression that help us to engage each other in kindness and friendly play. The rain came down hard along with thunder and lightning. We stayed dry in the room keeping busy with our rhyming and games. The Pre-K also spent time in the gym running, jumping and throwing and catching the ball. It helped burn off some energy. This week we welcomed Shabbat with Dior’s family. A time for all of us to welcome, celebrate and enjoy the warmth that Shabbat gives each of us.
