The sun has finally shined in Los Angeles and the children are very excited to be running outside and baking cakes in the sand. This week began with a community Havdalah, beginning our busy week with a little spiritual fulfillment for our souls.
Purim is quickly approaching we have anointed ourselves as King and Queen. You can follow us on the road to Shushan outside of the classroom. The children practiced their cutting skills making their own crowns. We introduced them to pastel crayons, they discovered how to apply different pressure on the pastels and noticed how they rub off on your hands when you touch them with your fingers or palms. Please keep in mind, as with most of our art center experiences, no child is forced to participate. We encourage them to try new experiences and to sit with those that like the art center, but it is not pushed onto your child. Please don’t get upset with them or us if they haven’t done any of these things. They will make it over to everything when they are ready, school is about exposure and feeling safe. Tuesday is a special day now with Yoga on the schedule. All of room 2 cheers when they hear it is Tuesday during circle time. The children know our schedule for each day better than the teachers. This week in Yoga we took a trip to the jungle and learned several new Yoga possess to practices. There is nothing more special than the end of Yoga when we relax our bodies and calmness takes over us in time for lunch. It begins our lunch time and afternoon quiet centers with a feeling of being grounded together as a community. This week we have left the wood blocks out after school. Each day the children have built and rebuilt our block community. They are maneuvering around the blocks carefully as not to destroy it, and when accidents occur, they are rebuilding and rethinking the buildings. The city has grown and changed over the course of the week. We must put it away over the weekend, but we are sure to begin again on Monday. Who knows what next week's city will look like and how big the buildings may grow upward? Our room has also changed with the lighting. When you drop off most of you have commented about not using the overhead lights. We are using natural light and lamps around the room to create a calmness and natural feeling in the room. The children are not at all missing the brightness of the overhead florescent lighting. They seem to be comfortable and feeling at ease with the new set up. Over the next few weeks we are going to try and add a few more lamps to add light to the window side of the room. Ask your children about the room and get a sense of how they are feeling. We would like to hear their feedback to you. Thursday being our quietest day of the week we always try to cook or bake something, and this week is no different. Our classroom chefs sliced and mashed bananas to make a Upside Down Banana Bread Pudding. It was not only the first time making it for the children, but the teachers had never made this before either. Classroom vote, it was a hit, Gooey, yummy and tasty. Shabbat is here and we welcomed Chloe’s family to our family. There is no day filled with more warmth and love then Friday in room 2. Thank you to Chloe’s family for being a part of the day.
