We started the week with Havdalah. Room 2 is always abuzz when we are together in celebration at the Temple. The children enjoy the prayers, singing and holding hands while swaying back and forth and feeling the spirit of community and heart.
Construction and Engineering continues to be a major focus in our room. We played on the Patio yard with rooms 7 and 9, where we built using blocks and tool kits. We watched, listened, learned and cooperated with each other as buildings took shape. Continuing with that momentum, after lunch the children worked on fixing computer keyboards. They discovered that there are different parts of the insides of a keyboard, and they then questioned how it all fit back in place. If you have any computers, laptops, telephones or other electronics in the throw away piles at your home, we would love to use them in our classroom. The imagination runs wild in room 2 and we are sure to construct a very powerful idea into who knows what. Big ideas create big thinkers and innovators. Our carpet place markers have also changed this past week. We are introducing Upper-case and Lower-case letters together, as well as 2-digit numbers. The children are helping each other recognize the letters and numbers. The friendships and kind hearts have grown so over the last few weeks. During morning circle, we use the days of week to talk about order, sequence and past, present and future. These are all very important concepts and part of the Wise Learning Process. It is so warming to see the children step out of their comfort zone to try new things and assist others that may need a little boost. We all learn at our own pace and we also all learn through the help of others. We had a visit this week from Anja’s mom (Anja’s mom is a professional dancer). We invited Room 1 to join us for a music movement class in the Yoga/Dance Studio. The children laughed and danced to songs that they all knew and enjoyed. We hope she will come back again to work with us. Next time we promised room 9 that they can join us. The colors of Fall are all around us now, and our walks to the Temple and the yards are always filled with stops and starts because each child is noticing the colors of fallen leaves. We used water color on paper/cloth leaves to imitate real leaves. The children carefully and with great concentration used droppers to place colors around the leaves and watched how the colors bled together to create different colors and different shades. We had our first Library visit this week. The children picked Rainbow Fish and the Mouse and the Lion. The children got to pick books to read and look at on their own. We talked about the rules of the library and behavior. They had a wonderful time. We love to eat and we love to cook in our room. Keeping up with fall smells as well as colors, we made Corn Bread and Honey Butter. How yummy can we make this season? We welcome any parents to come in and make a special seasonal food or art experience with us. Along with Engineering, room 2 has also expressed interest in setting up their own garden and we have gotten the go ahead from Jen and Tami. The sandbox on the 1,2,3 patio, with the help of your children, will be emptied and turned into a vegetable garden. We of course welcome all our families to help dig out the sand and help to make our garden grow. Teacher Bam (from our Explorer classes) said she was looking forward to helping us and teaching us about gardens. Can’t wait to see what we can harvest this spring. Room 2 and 9 joined together for STorah time. Rabbi Josh visited with us and told the story of the Tower of Babel. Our class listened very intently.
