Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families,
We are in the Thanksgiving spirit this week. The children have heard the Thanksgiving story in Hebrew many times and they have also heard it in English. Hayli’s mom, Sigalit, read us a story during our special library time. The story was about the Native Americans helping the Pilgrims when they came to a new land .Then, the Pilgrims made a feast to thank the Native Americans. After hearing the story, we searched the globe to find both England and America. We noticed the bodies of land and water between the two countries. We also continued to discussed the meaning of Pilgrims-“ Mehagrim”(in Hebrew). This week, the children made a turkey out of pine-cones. They rolled play-dough into small balls, and pushed them in between the spaces of the pine-cone ridges. This helped the strengthen children their fine-motor skills. We also worked on our pencil grasps. After two weeks discussing what it means to be thankful and how to show gratitude, we recorded some of the children’s thoughts onto feathers, which they then glued onto their turkey pinecone. The children also made necklaces inspired by the Native American culture. The children counted the amount of beads they needed, sorted them by color and organized a pattern before stringing them on. Could you smell the aroma coming from our classroom on Friday? That's because we baked our own challah! We practiced measuring, mixing and kneading the dough on Thursday to prepare it for Shabbat. We had fun celebrating Shabbat with Charlie’s family during his special Shabbat. We hope you enjoy the freshly baked challah during each of your family’s Shabbat Celebrations. Feel free to ask us for the recipe. It is so much fun to do at home and a great learning activity. Your child will come home on Friday with a game we made (instructions are attached). This game promotes the vocabulary and discussion regarding the four seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. We hope you enjoy playing this game with your child. Supporting what the children are learning at school by playing this game is an incredible opportunity to reinforce the vocabulary and concepts. It also offers the children a turn to teach you and provide directions to the game or help to translate specific words. Reverse osmosis at its best!!! Thank you for another book fair donation to Ulpanon Bet. Here is link for a new Hebrew song we have been learning… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoAtAMqcBoI Reminders: -Monday: 11/16/15 No school due to Staff Development Day. - Friday: 11/20/15 Eitan's special Shabbat.
