Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families, This week, we started to tell the story of Hanukkah. We talked about how the story started a long time ago in Israel and all about the Holy Temple. We discussed the symbols of Hanukkah and their meanings. The children are very excited to learn the beautiful Hebrew songs. Also, Rabbi Josh visited our class to retell the story of Hanukkah and the children really enjoyed this visit. Due to the rainy days this week we had the opportunity to have more time inside the classroom. We enjoyed exploring many exciting art and learning activities. Sharing: please bring a Hanukkiah to class. Please be sure to share with your child the important details such as: what material it was made from or why this menorah is special for your family. This will help them when they are sharing the details about their Hanukkiah with their classmates. Warmly, Talia and Meirav Light Up LiteracyHanukkah contains eight wonderful days to gather with family and friends, play driedel, eat latkes, delight in increasing light and blessing, as well as give and receive gifts of all sorts. What if you took one night of Hanukkah and gave a very special gift to children who have neither books nor adults to read to them? This year, make a difference in a child’s life and experience the joy of tzedakah and g’milut chasadim by joining us for Light Up Literacy, a tikkun olam program that makes great happen by bringing books to kids in rural Guatemala. This fall, Wise School is partnering with Reading Village to celebrate our ability to read while actively addressing the darkness of illiteracy in Guatemala, the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Approximately 50% of the nation’s rural population remains illiterate and lives without reading. Together, we hope to extinguish the darkness of illiteracy in Guatemala. From December 1 to December 19, we hope your family will participate in our Light Up Literacy campaign. The premise is simple: by reading books at home and at school, your children can help raise money to bring literacy to students in rural Guatemala. It’s really easy: 1. PLEDGE: Help your son or daughter collect pledges from family or friends for every book they read. 2. READ: Support your child as they read to themselves, to you, or to a younger child in their life. click here to donate.
