Let’s all take a deep breath. Chanukah is behind us and Winter Break in just 2 weeks, room 2 is hanging back and buckling down for winter. The weather has helped with that transition too. The children have been busy cutting, coloring and sewing skates, snow boots, and mittens. They are learning to thread the yarn in and out of the pre-punched holes on the boots etc. Who knows? Now that they are beginning to sew our incredible creative class may come up with a great sewing project.
The Gak is now white and it looks like melting snow over the containers, beads and buttons on the trays. Snow brings up a lot of discussion with the children. They like to talk about skiing and places that have lots of snow. Did you know that the Arctic is really cold and has snow? Penguins live in the Arctic and they lay eggs like birds. The daddy penguins hatch the eggs for the mommies. These are just some of the comments and facts your children have told us. Part of our emergent curriculum has been discussions about the world and all the different places we go. It started when Aitana was coming back to school and we talked about where she was, how she got there and where is Australia. Aitana brought a Globe in for Share Day and she pointed out Australia and told us about her next exciting trip to Morocco. Keep your eyes on the windows after Winter Break and we will be mapping out where in the world we have visited and what is the same and different about all those places. The teachers are hoping to bring this full circle back to Los Angeles and build a map with the children; showing where they live and what is different and the same about their communities. This week we made a sweet noodle pudding. There was a lot of measuring, pouring and mixing. Each time we cook, more and more of the children participate in the activity. There has been growing interest and the openness what to taste new foods. FYI, the rooms near the kitchen smelled so good and yummy, people came into the kitchen to see what we made. We did have enough leftovers to share with other classroom teachers and they agreed it was really yummy. The week was also filled with PE, Music and Storah with Rabbi Josh. Each special activity brings so much more to our fun filled week. As we wind down, we always celebrate with Shabbat and this week we also had a cupcake treat for Maximus' 5th in classBirthday celebration. We welcomed Aitana’s family and shared the sweetness and warmth of room 2’s Shabbat feeling. We also brought our Beit Issie fresh Farmers Market Fruit to add to our sweet and fragrant smells of Shabbat. What a busy Shabbat and week we had.
