Dear Parents,
Chag Purim!!! It's been a short but fun week! The children had the opportunity to select a character from the Purim story and make a representation of that character. They chose from the cast, King Achashverosh, Queen Ester, Vashti, Uncle Mordechai, and Haman. Using colored pencils and markers, the children observed and considered their characters, as portrayed in the story, to create their own detailed representation. Each child identified with a character, or a specific quality of that character, for a variety of reasons. The children saw Haman has a mean man, but also found him to be in charge. They found similarities to themselves as they desire to be a leader and decision maker with jobs in the classroom. They found Uncle Mordecai to be a caretaker and helper, which resembled how some of them felt towards concern and empathy for their friends. Each child devoted a great deal of time and focus to the project and sense of real accomplishment upon completion. The children enjoyed their time in the Music Lab singing Purim songs, as well as spending time with Rabbi Josh and listening to his fabulous stories. Thank you to Harper's mom for joining us and baking yummy Hamentashen. The children rolled, cut out circles, and pinched the dough to resemble the triangular shape of Haman's hat. Next, they had their choice to fill the cookie with chocolate chips, strawberry jam, or both! They waited patiently as the cookies were in the oven and then enjoyed their treat on the rug while listening to a Purim story. We ended the week going to the farmers Market, enjoying fresh fruit and Purim treats. Shabbat was a festive time, thank you to the Cohen family for joining us and making the day more memorable. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy celebrating at the Purim Carnival this Sunday!
