Thanks to a generous donation by Ms. Hoffman, Wise School has its first EV3 Robotics Kit and our first officially registered FIRST Lego League Team.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a worldwide organization dedicated to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and robotics education for students aged 6-18. Our FLL Robotics team is the next logical step after our successful Jr. FLL season this year. All FLL team members must be between the ages of 9-14 (and be in 4th, 5th or 6th grade at Wise School.) FLL teams are competitive. After building LEGO challenge models on a regulation-sized table, our FLL team will program our EV3 robot to complete the challenges and then conduct research on a topic and present to judges at competitions. We currently have 3 fourth grade members: Mason, James and Ryan who meet on Tuesdays at lunch. For more information on FIRST LEGO LEAGUE: http://www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge/2015trashtrek Our Junior FIRST Lego League teams have done an awesome job so far in our rookie year. We are still meeting after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are 28 students involved. We have four official teams.
The six students of Team #970 have answered the Think Tank challenge by creating a model of a cruise ship and conducting a survey to find the most cruised to locations as well as a list of things that people learn when on a cruise. This successful team is off to St. Louis, MO on April 22nd to participate in the 2015 FIRST World Championship and Expo. Team #1890 has created an awesome machine! They researched factories and built their own Lego Factory. Team 1890 will be participating in the Wise School Jr. FLL Expo on April 29th and has been invited to the Jr. FLL Expo at Legoland on May 2, 2015. Puppycorns is a very creative all girl team. They created a playground complete with a motorized tether ball game. The Puppycorns will be participating in the Wise School Jr. FLL Expo on April 29th and has been invited to the Jr. FLL Expo at Legoland on May 2, 2015. Great work Wise School Robotics Teams!! |
