Dear Parents,
This week was all about the fun and festive spirit of Purim. We continued to learn about the Purim story and how Queen Esther and Uncle Mordecai helped to save the Jewish people of Shushan from being banished by the not so nice, Haman. We put our fine motor skills to use to fill water bottles with beads, wood chips and sequins to create very colorful and noisy groggers which we used to "boo" Haman every time we heard his name. We decorated our paper crowns with shiny jewels and dressed up like kings and queens in our sparkly, fancy robes and gowns. Brock sang Purim songs with us on Monday and we danced and clapped along happily. We had a ball! Even with all this fun and excitement, the highlight of the week was making Hamantaschen with Benjamin's Mom and Aunt. They brought in the dough and all the filings to class on Monday. The children did a wonderful job of rolling the dough, cutting out circles, adding filling, then folding and pinching to create a triangle just like Haman's hat! They looked great and tasted even better. We all enjoyed them as a special treat at snack time. We want to give a big thanks to the Heyman family from all the children in room 21- it really was a blast! In other news welcomed some new friends into our classroom- a bunch a very hungry caterpillars! We created a new Butterfly habitat and most of them are now in the cocoon stage. We are so excited to watch the metamorphosis. Please take a look each morning to watch their progress. Again, we want to thank Stephanie for bringing in our fuzzy little friends. Also a few reminders, next week we have conferences starting on Wednesday the 16th and we will end all classes at noon. Conferences resume the next day March 17th which is a pupil free day. We are looking forward to sitting down with you. We will send out an email to each of you to confirm your appointment. Finally the Purim carnival is coming up and is not to be missed! Its on Sunday March 20 from 11-4pm. Hope to see you all there! Shabbat Shalom, Anita & Sue
