Students in kindergarten and first grade have been using Scratch Jr. to create original stories while learning to program at the same time. Students use blocks of code to start, move, and resize avatars known as sprites in Scratch lingo. Additional programming blocks are used to switch backgrounds. Sandbox activities that are part of the program including a drawing zone to edit the appearance of sprites and backgrounds. Students in first grade learned more advanced programming techniques such as looping. (Scratch Jr. can be downloaded to you iPad for free from the App Store.)
Second and third grade students are the newest members of the Wise School Typing Club. Each student is assigned a username and password that allows them to enter the web portal where they will find straightforward, no frills keyboarding lessons. Comments are closed.
