First Grade Rocks! We love to learn deeply, be creative, experience wholeness and make great happen in First Grade!
Math In math this month we're learning Double digit addition/subtraction. A great Math Resource is the online site for our math program. It's at http://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do Your username is first initial, last name: (example: jstahl) The password is: wisemath (*there are a few user name exceptions) Spelling Next week's spelling skill: long vowel U sound (ue, ew) Our weekly spelling test is on Fridays. Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes, not including reading, which should be a separate 10 minutes every night. After your child has finished reading (with you, or by him or herself), please sign your initials on their reading calendar. In addition, please practice the weekly spelling words every night with your child. Digging Deep! Ask your child about how they dig deep when they read, write, draw...create! Digging deep means searching for that extra something--details, thinking, stamina--to immerse you deeper in your learning. We are all experts! This month we are focusing on what we are experts at. Playing basketball? Taking care of fish? Baking cookies? Everyone is an expert at something, and our students are digging deep and writing about what they are an expert at. The steps we are taking are detailed and sophisticated (brainstorming, taking notes, writing a rough draft, editing, final draft). We can't wait to see what we can learn from one another! We're also beginning to work on Independent Study projects on America Symbols. Our students will be digging deep to answer questions they come up with the Liberty Bell, The Washington Monument, The White House, The Statue of Liberty and more! Upcoming Dates 6/9 Maccabbi Games (at Woodley Park) 6/10 Last Day of School!
