Hebrew & Judaic
This week we talked about the story of Noah's Arc and that we are responsible for the choices we make. In Hebrew our new letter was Koof and we had a beautiful discussion of Kabbalat Shabbat. Writing This week we began a new expository writing piece on Fall. We brainstormed things that are unique to fall and created bubble maps with our ideas. We are working on taking the information from our bubble maps and turning them into complete sentences. Social Studies This week we continued our study of timelines. We read A Day in the Life of Samuel Eaton and worked together to create a timeline of the events in the story. Math In math this week we began geometry. We looked at art pieces by Joan Miro and made our own Miro inspired geometrical artwork. Phonics Our phonics focus for the week was a review of short vowels. Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes. This should not include reading, which should be a separate 10 minutes every night. After your child has finished reading (with you, or by him or herself), please sign your initials on their reading calendar. In addition, please practice the weekly spelling words every night with your child. Reading
In reading this week we discussed how we use metacognition to think about our own thinking. We focused on expository texts and used thinking stems such as "I'm thinking, "I'm noticing," "I'm wondering," and "I learned" to help us dig deeper into non-fiction books. Social Studies This week we studied timelines. We discussed how events on a timeline go in sequential order and practiced this by placing the events from The Grouchy Ladybug in order on a timeline. Math In math this week we began to study number families and the relationship between addition and subtraction. Phonics Our phonics focus for the week was short "u." Writing We learned about adjectives and how we use them to add details to our writing. Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes.
