Writer's Workshop
In writing this week we began our next unit on opinion writing. We discussed the difference between facts and opinions. Resident Expert This week we began our resident expert boards. We brainstormed topics that we are experts about. We then wrote tips to share with people about our topics. Ask you child what they are an expert in! Phonics In phonics this week we continued with long "O" and we discussed that "oa","ow", and "o_e" make the long o sound. Our spelling pattern focused on "l" blends. Math In math this week we focused on graphing. We compiled a class list of birthdays and then made a tally chart. We took our tally chart and made a class picture graph of our birthdays. On our graph we focused on elements of a graph including title, key, data, and categories. Hebrew/Judaic Studies We learned the letter "tsadee" and corresponding themes such as tzedakah and tzvaeem (an ongoing color unit). Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes. This should not include reading, which should be a separate 10 minutes every night. After your child has finished reading (with you, or by him or herself), please sign your initials on their reading calendar. In addition, please practice the weekly spelling words every night with your child.
