First grade celebrated Dr. Seuss's Birthday by reading Dr. Seuss book's in forts! Writer's Workshop
In writing this week we continued our unit on opinion writing. We read three books by Ezra Jack Keats. We stated our opinion on which story we liked the best. We supported our opinion by discussing characters and events. Social Studies In social studies this week we continued our unit on American Symbols. We learned about the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore. Phonics This week we focused on "th" and "ch." Math In math this week we began doing double digit subtraction. We learned how to regroup from the tens to the ones place. Hebrew/Judaic Studies This week in began talking about the holiday of Purim. We continued Hebrew with vocabulary and conversation. Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes. This should not include reading, which should be a separate 10 minutes every night. After your child has finished reading (with you, or by him or herself), please sign your initials on their reading calendar. In addition, please practice the weekly spelling words every night with your child.
