Reading
In reading this week we learned about visualization. We learned that when we visualize, we make a movie on our head. We listened Katy No-Pockets and drew illustrations. We celebrated our love of reading with Literary Tea! Social Studies This week we continued our colonial times unit. We learned about how daily life was different in colonial time versus today, and how things change over time. Math In math this week we continued our unit on flat and plane shapes. We also discussed halves and fourths of shapes. Phonics Our phonics focus for the week was long "a" with an emphasis on silent "e" words. Writing We began to discuss the writing process. We are beginning to finish our Fall rough drafts, and are now in the editing and publishing phases. Hebrew We continued the concept of Mitzvah with Tikkun Olam (taking care of the world). We also learned the hebrew concept of "what is on the..." Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes. This should not include reading, which should be a separate 10 minutes every night. After your child has finished reading (with you, or by him or herself), please sign your initials on their reading calendar. In addition, please practice the weekly spelling words every night with your child.
