This week the first graders met their third grade buddies! We are preparing something special with our buddies for Midor L'Dor.
Reading In reading this week we learned about character traits. We learned that characters have traits on the inside and outside. Social Studies This week we continued our colonial times unit. We learned about how life for kids was different in colonial time versus today, and how things change over time. We discussed jobs adults had, chores kids did, and how school was different than school today. Math In math this week we learned about ordinal position and position words. Phonics This week our phonics focus continued on long "a", we learned that "ay", "ai", and silent e words can make the long "a" sound. Writing We are beginning to finish our Fall rough drafts, and are now in the editing and publishing phases. Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes. This should not include reading, which should be a separate 10 minutes every night. After your child has finished reading (with you, or by him or herself), please sign your initials on their reading calendar. In addition, please practice the weekly spelling words every night with your child.
