Reading
In reading this week we continued to discuss character traits of characters, and how to provide proof from the text that supports the trait. Social Studies This week we concluded our colonial unit by participating in the first Colonial Day. In science we made butter, in project studio we weaved cloth and made colonial board games, in music we listened to colonial flute music, in P.E. we played traditional sack races, in library we heard colonial stories, and in art we made a quilt. We are also beginning to discuss the first Thanksgiving! Math In math this week we began our unit on number up to 20. We discussed different ways to make 20 and the value of the tens place. Hebrew/Judaic Studies In Hebrew and Judaic studies this week we discussed Lashon Ha-rah and the impact that our words have on our behavior and other people. In Hebrew we kicked off Hanukkah by introducing vocabulary. Writing We are beginning to finish our Fall rough drafts, and are now in the editing and publishing phases. Homework Homework should not take your child more than 10 or 15 minutes. This should not include reading, which should be a separate 10 minutes every night. After your child has finished reading (with you, or by him or herself), please sign your initials on their reading calendar. In addition, please practice the weekly spelling words every night with your child.
