Pajama DayWe started off the day on Wednesday with a giant slumber party! Everyone snuggled up in the Sanctuary as our beloved Mr. Stahl read us an all-time favorite bedtime story, Goodnight Moon. Then we got together with our 4th grade buddies, shared cookies and milk as they read us some stories in Hebrew. What a fun day! STEM NightOn Wednesday, April 29 we had a wonderful night celebrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. One of the things that the families were able to do was make Rube Goldberg machines in Project Studio.
Here is a quick video of Talia Foonberg and Ms. Twersky celebrating the success of Talia's Rube Goldberg Machine. She was trying to get the bells in the cup to ring by having a ping pong ball drop inside. Coming Up...May 6 - Spirit Day - PAJAMA DAY!
May 6 - Spring Music Festival May 12 - Living Hero Museum Earth Day CelebrationOn Monday we participated in a recycling relay race and book swap and got to see a real recycling truck in action during our Earth Day Celebration. We have lots of pictures in a slideshow below thanks to Mr. Foonberg. Be sure to also check out the flikr page from our naturalist, Rick Hagerty HERE. Click on Albums and then the album that says Wise School to see all of his photos from the trip. Practice Passover SederMrs. Volterra and Mrs. Levy hosted us in a beautiful practice Seder on Thursday. We all had so much fun saying the blessings, watching our teachers act out the Passover story, and eating yummy Passover food. Measurement OlympicsSome of the second grade students participated in measurement Olympics Friday! They put the skills they have learned into action, and attended to precision, while measuring a variety of distances.
Founders DayWhat an amazing assembly celebrating our Rabbi Zeldin, Metuka Benjamin and our founders this morning. We enjoyed video presentations by the Sixth Grade class, Student Council, and our very own Second Graders. We heard Rabbi Yoshi sing a very special song to Rabbi Zeldin and saw some students ask him some important questions. Take a look at some of the pictures and videos below. We had a wonderful time at the Norton Simon Museum on Thursday. Before we left Mrs. Navah taught us all about what to expect at the museum and it was really fun to see some of the pieces in person that we had seen in class. We went on scavenger hunt to find different types of art. Can you believe we saw landscapes, portraits, still-lifes, and sculptures? We all enjoyed both the indoor galleries and the sculpture garden outside. Please enjoy a few pictures from our trip.
Megilat EstherThis week in Judaic Studies we started studying a new Bible Hero...or heroine. We began learning about Esther and of course the story of Purim. We are all very excited to celebrate the bravery of Esther telling her King to save the Jewish people. Patriotic AssemblyOn Tuesday we joined together in song to celebrate our amazing country. Our own Mrs. V even got a chance to read an inspiring quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Milken ReadersSome Milken High School seniors joined the 2nd grade classes recently to read them a story in Hebrew. The second graders proudly showed off their Hebrew skills as they understood the story and answered questions in Hebrew. The students then celebrated Kabbalat Shabbat with their guests and shared a Shabbat treat. This was a wonderful opportunity to show our 2nd graders how they can grow as Hebrew learners.
Valentines for Turning PointMrs. Baral's class had the pleasure of putting together Valentine bags for our friends at Turning Point shelter. We visited the shelter earlier this year and made lunches and toured the facility. A few months ago, Mrs. Neishuler's class brought Christmas cookies to them and in a few month's Mrs. V's class will make them some Easter goodies. These activities remind us how to care for others and acknowledge that everybody deserves to be a little spoiled for holidays, even if we ourselves don't celebrate those holidays.
