Dear Ulpanon Alef Parents, We had a great week in room 1. On Monday we went to visit Claire’s mom, Alexandra, in her science lab and while there, got to meet Mr. Bernardo, the lizard. We focused on the color pink (Varod) this week. We introduced the holiday of Thanksgiving to the children through reading and looking at different books. We told the story of how the Pilgrims left England, and found new land in America. .We talked about all kind of food that we eat during Thanksgiving and especially talked about corn and we connected it to a story that we have in Hebrew, Tiras Cham (Hot Corn). As your children become more familiar speaking Hebrew, they are beginning to repeat portions of our stories in Hebrew .We continued to decorate our fall corner with different colorful pine cones that the children painted. They had so much fun painting them.. We continued our pre-math skills by playing our number games and also practiced the proper way to use our scissors when cutting. Wishing you and your family and wonderful Shabbat, Mira and Miri Reminders: November 16: No School – Professional Development Day for Teachers November 19: Holiday Boutique November 20: Logan is the Shabbat Aba November 24: Our Thanksgiving Feast (students and teachers only)

Dear Ulpanon Alef Parents, We had a great week in our classroom. We did an entire unit on pumpkins.(d'la׳at) We started by placing a pumpkin in the center of our art center. The children sketched a pumpkin from what they saw. We decided to cut the pumpkin, and we each pulled out the seeds and the pumpkin’s hair. The children decided to paint with the stringy portion of the pumpkin and then glued it onto paper. We also continued learning the colors. This week we cut and glued with purple (sagol). This week we sang with both Ditza and Brock and rode the tricycles on Baron Field during our Tricycle Express time. The kids also loved playing with their other Explorer friends on the Witzman yard. We are continuing to practice cutting with scissors. Dear Ulpanon Alef, This week, we took a walk around our campus collecting leaves of all shapes, colors and sizes. On the way back from our nature walk, we stopped to play on the big grass area around the Temple, which also has lots of natural scenery we could explore. We also discussed the colors we see during fall: red, orange, yellow, green and brown. Using those colors, we painted a gigantic piece of bark and glued the leaves we found while walking our campus. In addition to learning about fall colors, we focused on the color: blue (kachol). We painted using various shades of blue and then collaged blue items on top. During the week, we also introduced scissors. The children seemed to enjoy snipping the paper. We also had fun riding on tricycles during our bi-weekly Tricycle Express time. Have a great weekend Miri and Mira Ulpanon Alef Dear Parents, This week for Simhat Torah we visited the main Temple to show the children the different Torah scrolls that live in the Temple's ark. The children could see how heavy each Torah was however we felt it would be meaningful for them to experience the sanctity of our Jewish roots. We show the children all sizes of the Torah. The children had the opportunity to touch the Torah. While in the sanctuary, we sang our Torah holiday songs and took a lot of pictures beside the open ark and next to the Torah. During one of our art centers, each child made their own Torah using water color paints. We now have a new music component to our weekly schedule. Ditza Zakay will be coming to our classroom every Tuesday before lunchtime so that the class can sing special songs in Hebrew. We introduced the color yellow, tzhov, and reinforced our studies by using yellow paints for one art activity and by gluing yellow materials onto paper during another center time.. This week we spoke about Shavuot, the holiday when G-D gave us the Torah. We spoke about being thankful for all that G-D gives us and the children reflected on that idea by looking at themselves in our standing mirror. They looked at themselves and we pointed out that we are all different and G-D made us all the way we are.
The children have created Lego masterpieces and are very proud of their creations and chose to display them on our shelves. They know that if they do not want them put away they must have their names near their work. This gives them an opportunity to add onto their structures or leave them for display.
