Shabbat Shalom, Room 7 Families!
The children counted out in bundles of tens using craft sticks, “Ten, twenty, thirty… Ninety!” and then in ones, “One, two three four five!” We discovered that we only have five more days until we reach the long anticipated, “100 Days in School!” We’ve been eager to reach this goal, counting each and every day that we have been in school since September, the excitement building as we wrapped each bundle of ten. Now that we are near the finish line, the children have been brainstorming how to celebrate this milestone. “We can decorate the room!” suggested one child. “Let’s make the number 100!” announced another. As we formulated a plan for next week, we proposed that the children gather natural items from around their homes to bring in and investigate together. We think that these materials will provide inspiration for next week’s celebration. We wonder what the children will find as they explore their yards and homes, and look forward to seeing what they bring in to share with us on Monday. Vertical Learning At the literacy center, we placed loose parts and wooden letters for the children to shape the parts into letters of the alphabet. At the math center, the children worked on simple addition equations using teddy bears and strips of paper with an equation sentence to match to the number of teddy bears they used to solve the equation. At the art center, the children were presented with leaves and pinecones, paper and pencils in order to inspire the children to sketch detailed pictures of what they observed.
