We are preparing for Passover in Room 7! We started off by going through the Haggadah and learning the order of the Seder. We went over blessings, songs and the story of Passover again. We will continue to talk about the Seder and practice the 4 questions so that they will be able to help at your Seders at home!
The kids built bricks out of brown clay last week. They dried over the weekend and now they were able to sit at the tables and see if their bricks stacked up together. We can’t wait to put them together throughout the week and make them stick together to form a pyramid just like the Jewish people did long ago. They were excited to see what their bricks formed like and how some could stack on top of each other and some could not. We met some other Pre K classes on the yard to build more bricks. We had mud, sand and hay and learned out to make material to build our own bricks like they had to do long ago. We took our shoes off and got messy! They all took turns filling the container with sand, soil and hay. They then took turns to fill it with water to make it stick together. The smiles on their faces were a sight to see. They loved connecting experiences to what they are learning about the slaves in Egypt from the Passover story. We will be coming up with more experiential activities like this for the future. We have been going through the Passover Haggadah and going through the prayers, 4 questions and the story of Passover. The kids are enjoying the many discussions we are having involving the stories around Passover. They are asking questions and having meaningful conversations. We went into depth talking about Elijah’s cup and Miriam’s cup. We made connections between the two cups and talked about why they are important on our Seder table. Our discussions about Elijah’s cup went into talk about how Elijah is a prophet and can be anyone. He can be someone you run into on the street, in the market or even at the park. Here are some things the kids said: “We leave a cup on the Seder table for Elijah to drink when we let him in the door.” “Elijah is a prophet and we welcome him to show we welcome anyone to our table.” “It means to let other people come to your Seder.” “If someone doesn’t have a Seder to go to, we welcome them to ours.” “It is nice to invite others to your Seder.” “We are being kind.” “We can do kind things for people all the time.” “Elijah reminds us to be kind.” “when people get hurt, you should give them a band aid if they don’t have one. That is being kind.” “Elijah reminds us to be mindful and kind.” The kids really understood what Elijah symbolizes. Don’t forget to have more conversations with your kids about this when they bring it home for your family Seder. If the kids didn’t choose to make Elijah’s cup, they chose to make Miriam’s cup. They enjoyed having a conversation about her because it was something they could relate to from the story of Passover. In Miriam’s cup we put water. This reminds us of Miriam’s well and symbolizes woman in the Passover story. Our classroom Seder this year will be on April 11that 9:15 in Room 7. Parents are welcome, please no siblings.
