Welcome back! We hope you enjoyed your time away or time spent at home with family and friends. We were very excited to see everyone walk in Monday morning well rested and even a bit taller. It was nice to hear from all the children about something they enjoyed doing over the 2 weeks.
We started off our week choosing classroom jobs. All year the kids have been sharing responsibilities and helping in our classroom with the jobs. Starting now they get to choose the job they would like to take responsibility for during the week. They will get to pick a new job every week to help in our classroom. Some of these jobs are: Sweeper, line leader, snack helper, prayer leader, door opener, counter, gate holder, building center, book nook center, art center and science center. Ask your kids about these jobs and what the responsibilities are they do during those jobs. We focused on the letter T this week. We realized that there are so many words that begin with T. We learned how to form the letter, the sound of the letter and words that begin with this letter. We practiced our cutting skills and cut out a letter T. Then we used liquid water color to pinch out and drop the paint to tie die on the letter T we cut out. We read a book called, Tessa Tiger’s Temper Tantrums. They loved hearing all the words that begin with T. Sometimes when we dismissed the kids to line up at the door from the carpet we like to play a fun game. We give them two words and they have to tell us which word begins with the letter T (or that letter of the week) to line up at the door. They love it and wait patiently for their turn. We made tambourines out of paper plates and paint dotters. The kids will continue to build these to make them make sound. We started it this week because of the letter T and will continue this process as part of our emergent curriculum and our focus on music. We learned a new game in PE this week. It incorporated all the skills we have learned so far this year. It was a kickball game with a twist. One team kicked the ball and ran around the bases. They used their foot eye coordination for this part. The other team stood around in a circle behind their cones. Once the person rolled the ball to the kicker using their hand eye coordination skill they grabbed the ball and brought it back to the circle of kids around the cone. Once they made it back they passed the ball around the circle until they all got and sat down. Once they were all seated they yelled freeze and the person who kicked the ball and ran around the bases stopped. The kids were laughing and smiling the whole time. We loved hearing them say that this was the best game ever. They have grown up so much and it was great to see them use these skills they have learned in PE.
