The children have been busy this week as we continue to learn more about Fall/Autumn. We used 2 shapes (circle and triangle) to make a scarecrow face as one of our crafts. Continuing to work on our fine motor skills, for this project we used scissors to cut out the shapes. Then, we created our own scarecrow faces using buttons, foam fall leaves, yarn and paper. They are so creative, take time to look at them on our cabinet doors! The children have been fantastic at remembering their “morning job” of spelling out their names using the clothespin letters and attaching them to their name cards. Next week we will be continuing this task. However, instead of having their name on the card to look at, the children will need to put the letters of their name in order using just the dots. Continuing our progression of our Hand Writing Without Tears Program, this week the children learned about how to form the shapes circle and triangle correctly. We used our “Magic Fingers” in the air, and then followed up with creating them in cornmeal on a tray. Some of the observations the children made about the shapes were: *A circle goes around and around *A circle has no ending *If your circle is flat it will look like and egg *The triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners *A triangle looks like an “A” The children also had the opportunity to compare and contrast the difference between and squash and a gourd. We looked at, touched, and smelled the gourds. Some of the comparisons the children made about the outside of a gourd were: “The gourd is soft”, “The gourd is hard”, “It’s bumpy”. When we cut one open and looked inside some observations they made were: “The inside looks like a squash”, “There are lots of seeds”, “I think there is 1000 seeds”. The children enjoyed attending the first Farmers Market on Friday. Additionally, we revisited our school theme of “Generosity of the Heart”, I asked the children what they felt having a generous heart meant, and some of their replies amazed us! Be sure to look for the their “Spin Art Heart” on the wall in the front of the room, next to it you will be able to read what each child spoke about. Looking forward to another fun filled week next week. Shabbat Shalom, Rachel and Linda Reminders: -Shabbat Child on Friday, November 2nd Asher.
