This week the fifth grade had the exciting opportunity to have pre-K buddies! The students were paired with one or two preschoolers and read books to them or did other fun activities. It was a wonderful experience for both our fifth graders and pre-k students! See some of our photos. With Tu B'shvat coming next week, in Mrs. Fridman's Hebrew class the students worked in groups to explore what trees give us, how the Torah and people are like trees, and what we need to do on the holiday. Tu B'shvat Field Trip Information:
Wednesday, February 4th we will go on a field trip to Camp Alonim. Please be aware of the following: Arrive at school at 7:30am. The bus will leave promptly at 7:45am. Free dress, wear comfortable clothing. Snack and lunch will be provided. Bring a water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day. No backpacks. This week marked the first that two of our students were "klei kodesh," leading parts of the weekly morning service and sharing their personal thoughts and connections to certain prayers. Yasher koach to Lauren and Kailey! In their classes, the fifth graders are continuing to work on comparing various features of the 13 colonies in Social Studies, and in math are exploring multiplying and dividing with decimals and fractions. Below is a short clip of Miss Rahm's math class watching a video to help the students remember how to divide fractions! Last Saturday was also the DAR American History Award event. Several of our fifth graders participated and their hard work and fantastic essays were rewarded with certificates of participation and scholarship money.
The fifth graders had the special opportunity this week to begin Israeli Dance with Mrs. Orevi! They learned several new dances, and got to practice old favorites. In Social Studies, the students are working on comparing various elements (geography, government, etc) of the Northern, Southern, and Middle Colonies. In Mrs. Fridman's Hebrew class, students are learning about the mitzvah of "bikkur holim" (visiting the sick) and are acting out a story about Rabbi Akivah. Here are some clips of them acting it out!
