Pre K: This week the students studied the properties of different substances. We played and experimented with Flubber, Crayola Dough, and Ooblek and discussed their similarities and differences.
Kindergarten: This week the students learned about different habitats. The students studied worms, mosquitos, and snails up close and talked about their similarities and differences. 1st Grade: This week we learned more about animal adaptations. The students completed a worksheet about how humans can mimic animal actions through adaptations. 2nd Grade: This week we checked on our grass seed experiments that we began last week. To our surprise, the only seeds that have sprouted were the wet/dark pots! We are excited to see our results next week. We also learned about the different parts of a flower, and studied flowers up close with magnifying glasses. 3rd Grade: This week we began to learn about fossils. We watched a video, and then examined different types of fossils up close using magnifying glasses. We are excited to begin connecting our knowledge of fossils to dinosaurs! 4th Grade: This week we continued to learn about the brain and constructed our very own brain caps. The brain caps show the different parts of the brain and what they are in control of. 5th: This week we reviewed for and then had our quiz on photosynthesis. 6th Grade: This week the students created edible cell models in class. The students chose different types of foods to represent the different parts of an animal or plant cell. It was delicious and informative all at once!

Pre K: No Pre-k this week due to our PD day!

Kindergarten: This week the students learned about camouflage. We talked about how camouflage can help animals, and the students had the opportunity to camouflage their own chameleon and hide it somewhere in our classroom for other grades to try to find. 1st Grade: This week we began out life science units by talking about animals and their adaptations. We looked at slides of different animals and discussed how they adapt to their habitats. 2nd Grade: This week we began our life science unit by talking about plants. We discussed the different parts of a plant, and watched a video on plants and their characteristics. 3rd Grade: This week we began out life science unit by talking about life cycles. We talked about the life cycles of different animals and and discussed changes that animals go through over time. 4th Grade: This week we began our life science unit on the human body. We learned about how our eyes and brain are connected by looking at optical illusions, and began to learn about the parts and functions of the brain. 5th: This week we began our life science unit by learning about plants and photosynthesis. We connected our chemistry unit to life science by discussing photo synthesis, and represented the reaction using our atom models. 6th Grade: This week the students presented their Climate Projects. We learned about the different climates across the globe and the types of weather, plants, and animals that pertain to each. Using PowerPoint, Keynote, iMovie, etc, create a 6 slide presentation including the following about your assigned climate:
1. Title Page 2. Describe climate (temperature, precipitation) 3. Where it can be found (Latitude) 4. Examples of plants 5. Examples of animals and their adaptations to the climate 6. Sources |
